What you can expect
Responsibilities:
Lead the development, implementation, and ongoing management of Rhenus Group's comprehensive decarbonization roadmap, ensuring alignment with our sustainability mission, vision, and strategy. This includes coordinating cross-functional projects from inception to completion.
Empower business units to identify, develop, and implement effective emission reduction initiatives, providing guidance on science-based target setting, timeline development, cost-benefit analysis, GHG reduction calculations, and funding opportunities (grants, loans).
Spearhead the decarbonization of our Scope 3 emissions by building strategic partnerships with core suppliers, influencing their adoption of low-carbon solutions, and driving collaborative initiatives across the supply chain.
Analyze and optimize the efficiency of energy use across our operations, encompassing all energy carriers and modes of transport (road, rail, sea, air), including buildings. Through close collaboration with experts who provide insights on best practices and emerging technologies, leverage strategies such as multimodality, route optimization, advanced vehicle technologies and alternative fuels. Develop and maintain a "waterfall chart" to track progress towards our emission reduction goals.
Ensure commitment and alignment with the Chief Sustainability Officer and key stakeholders (business management, Head of Carbon Footprint Management, CSRD Reporting Manager, Sustainable Services Lead).
Monitor and analyze new mobility trends, regulations, and emerging technologies, providing strategic insights and recommendations to position Rhenus as a leader in sustainable logistics. This includes expertise in carbon pricing, policy developments, and operational innovation.
Champion a culture of sustainability throughout the organization, raising awareness of climate risks and communicating Rhenus Group's progress towards our ambitious goals.
What you bring
- Demonstrated expertise in decarbonization strategies for the transportation and logistics sectors, including a comprehensive understanding of energy efficiency measures, renewable energy technologies and low-carbon solutions across all modes of transport.
- Strong command of EU Green Deal-driven climate policy and regulatory landscape, including carbon markets (ETS) and decarbonization requirements for the logistics sector.
- 1-3 or more years of advisory, consulting or industry project experience in a high-caliber and international environment, ideally within the logistics industry or other hard to abate sectors.
- Strong commercial awareness and financial literacy, with the ability to analyze business cases, including cost-benefit analysis and ROI calculations.
- Master's degree or equivalent in a relevant field (e.g., Environmental Science, Energy-related Studies, Engineering, Business Administration with a sustainability focus.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Professional proficiency in German is a significant advantage.
- Proven ability to work independently, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and thrive in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to influence and build consensus among stakeholders.
- Willingness to travel regularly, both domestically and internationally.

Online tests, assessment centres or work on a trial basis may also be possible. In the end, the best decision is taken for both sides.
